Preparation for the session on Monday 2 November (6pm)

Hi Everybody,

The ICT Seminar is now underway and there will be further sessions on Monday 2 November, Monday 16 November and Monday 30 November - all these will start at 6pm. I look forward to seeing you there.

For those coming to the next session I would like you to look at the "Ten tried and tested internet tools for teachers" which you can find at the following link:

Box of tricks

"Box of tricks" is a very interesting blog dealing with technology and education and has lots of practical advice and tips for teachers. The "Ten tried and tested internet tools for teachers" is intended to give you some ideas about what web applications might be useful for creating classroom activities.

I would like each participant to choose one or two of the recommended tools in order to investigate their potential for application in the classroom. Please come prepared to explain to other participants in the seminar what you think about one or two of these tools in terms of:
  • what they allow you to do
  • how motivating they are
  • their educational value
  • their ease of use

I would also like you to all read a fascinating article called "Like boiling a frog" which is about Wikipedia and which will form the basis for a discussion during the course of the 2 November session. Regina has kindly offered to scan it and post it on this blog in pdf format so if all goes well we will have easy access to it right here very soon.

Anyway, I am sure that this is more than enough to keep you all busy. Enjoy the research and good reading!
